Zoe’s first week

Here are the latest Zoe pictures. At her first week milestone, I’m reflecting on what an experience this has been. Through the joys and how-do-I-say less-than-joyful times, I just look at her and think how lucky we are to have her. Even when her pouty face comes on (or as John calls it “mommy’s contraction face”), I feel happy to have a daughter who can express herself, though if she did that during the daytime and a little less frequently, that would be just fine too. :-) For more first week details, keep reading. Zoe is here!

Wow, what a day. After a very long labor (between 24 and 36 hours, depending on how you count), Zoe Hope Juergensen came into the world at 10:54 am, November 22. (and is that a cool birthday, 11/22?) 7 pounds, 7 ounces, 20 inches head-to-toe.

Too tired to write more now, but all I can say is that first feeling of holding your daughter in your arms as she falls asleep is such an indescribable and incomparable emotion that language lacks the means to describe it. A few quick pics are here

Due date, come and gone

So the due date of Monday has come, gone, and is fading in the rearview mirror. Deb is doing just great; for someone who’s been carrying an ever-growing bowling ball for months now, she’s amazingly chipper and cheerful. Which, upon trivial reflection, is probably why women and not men carry babies. But it’s odd going past the due date. Even though I rationally realized the due date is merely a best guess based on data from nine months ago, it nonetheless felt rather official. Now I feel like a kid before Christmas, except not knowing exactly what day Christmas falls on. No doubt this will seem silly in a couple weeks.

Our First Post

So this is it, the Juergensen family blog. Why do we have a blog? Obviously because of the utter loss to the world were we not to share the profundity of our thoughts with the blogosphere. Or, alternatively, because this is an easy way to keep friends and family updated on what (we think) is the important stuff going on in our lives. Like, I dunno, November 14th. Or thereabouts, depending on how independent-minded Zoe turns out to be. :-)
