What a week – Zoe at 6 months!
Wow, what a busy week it’s been for little miss Z.
First, she turned 6 months old on Monday! It’s so hard to believe that she’s already a half-year. And at the same time, it’s so hard to remember what life was like before she was here. And would you believe it, but a little tooth erupted on her birthday. We couldn’t see it, but could definitely feel it sharply when she sucked on a finger (which is pretty much whenever a finger is near her mouth). A few days later, we could actually see the top of the little tooth sticking through the gum. Now we’re wondering when we’ll get to see the whole thing.
Good thing the tooth came along, since at her 6-month checkup the doctor said it was time to start her on solids. If you can call the watery gruel that’s rice cereal a “solid”. There are things that Zoe took to like a fish in water – sucking on anything within grasp, standing up with a little help from mom or dad – but solid food clearly is not one of those things. The doc said to start with a tablespoon at the beginning of the week and work up to four tablespoons by the end. Well, it’s the end now and we’re still trying to work up to one whole tablespoon. Deb seems to have hit on a more winning formula (heh, heh, pun intended) of eating along with Zoe, which sparks Zoe’s interest. But maybe Deb’s success shouldn’t be too surprising; she is, after all, a cereal person herself.
And it was a big week for mommy and daddy too. Mommy, because she took her first extended trip away from her little girl. The biggest trade show for real estate and franchises (Deb’s business) was held in Las Vegas, and Deb goes every year. This year she didn’t run a booth, but she ran a direct marketing campaign ahead of time and set up a bunch of meetings while there. A three-day trip! Which meant it was a big week for JJ, because he had to do the single parent thing for three whole days. (which Deb no doubt finds comical, given that JJ’s job basically means she’s a single parent five days a week). But for JJ, this was a big deal.
Lastly, Zoe finally got to meet her Granny. Well, technically, she’d met Granny once before, but it was the day after she was born so it was not a particularly entertaining meeting on either side. So Granny got back to NY on Tuesday, and we took Zoe in to the Big Apple on Wednesday. Zoe turned on the charm, and Granny was captivated. But then Granny turned on the charm, and little Z was captivated. All in all, a very fun day. Lots of pics here.
